★First day
We will stay in Sapporo, the capital city of Hokkaido. You will visit the "Ikor" forest, meaning "Treasure" in Ainu language.
Mr. Toshihiro Kudo will have a talk with us, a leading figure in the collection and promotion of Hokkaido roses.
At the next stop, the majestic natural surroundings of Hokkaido, you will enjoy interacting with horses at the Northern Horse Park theme park.
We will also have a discussion with garden designer Ayumi Umeki and delve into the charm of botanical gradens.
In this area, you can also admire the monument created by sculptor Kan Yasuda, a native of Bibai City, Hokkaido, which is named after the renowned racehourse "Deep Impact," leaving its mark on Japan's horse racing history.
★Second day
You will stroll through the Hamanasu no Oka Park, located where the Sea of Japan and the Ishikari River meet. You will enjoy a "flower walk" while feeling the sea breeze and the soothing wind of Ishikari Beach, observing how wild beach roses thrive in their environment.
You will then head to Obihiro City, known as one of Japan's major food production areas, and stay at a hotel where you can experience the rare "Moor hot spring."
Moor hot springs are characterized by organic matter derived from plants dissolved in the water, with the name "moor" originating from the German word for peat and similar substances. It's also known as the "beauty bath," leaving your skin feeling smooth and radiant.
★Third day
You will vist the 'Tokachi Millennium Forest,' which will be registered as a national park in the summer of 2024. You will hear from the head gardener, Midori Shintani.
The 'Tokachi Millennium Foest' was awarded the highest prize in Japan, the Grand Prize, in the Society of Garden Designers (SGD) Awards, which commend excellent garden designs in the UK.
It was praised by the judges as 'the most beautiful garden' and 'the best example of 21st-century garden design.'
After a lunch break, you will visit the 'Rokkatei Forest,' owned by the confectionery maker Rokkatei, and stroll through the forest of Hokkaido's alpine wildflowers depicted on Rokkatei's wrapping paper by the mountain painter Naoyuki Sakamoto.
Finally, you will visit the 'Manabe Garden,' known as Japan's first conifer garden, where we will admire Japanese gardens, Western-style gardens, and landscape gardens.
★Final day
We will visit the 'Iwamizawa Park Rose Garden.' This garden incorporates varieties not commonly seen in region like mainland Japan due to their excellent cold resistance.
In the main garden, prominent large roses are planted, lending a strong presence.
While our visit may be slightly early for the roses to be in full bloom, there are also attractions such as the 'Hamanasu Hill,' the 'Old Rose Path,' and the 'English Garden,' all well-maintained and impressive.
At the restaurant within the park, you can enjoy an authentic pizza lunch baked in a wood-fired oven certified by the Neapolitan Pizza Association.
